Biggest US public utility gears up green shift with ‘bold’ 5GW clean energy tender

The US’ largest public power utility, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), has launched a solicitation for up-to-5GW of renewables energy plant before 2029, including offshore wind power and paired battery storage, with the utility’s CEO calling the move a “clear signal” of its ambition in carbon-free resource procurement.

“We are taking this bold, decisive action because TVA is uniquely positioned to lead in reducing carbon emissions for the region and the nation,” said Jeff Lyash. “This announcement is a clear signal to our industry, our partners, and our nation that we need to move further and faster, together, to make a cleaner future a reality.”
