Job Posting: Clean Economy Program Manager
SEEKING a Program Manager eager to join Clean Energy Canada’s policy team and lead its clean economy initiatives. You are a strategic policy advocate up for the task of maintaining and advancing our high standards for research, analysis, policy perspectives, and communications.
The Clean Economy Program Manager is responsible for developing, advocating and implementing strategies to advance policies and programs that support Canada’s transition to a clean energy future, with a current focus on industrial decarbonization and a national buy clean strategy as building blocks of a clean economy. An entrepreneurial and energetic leader, the Program Manager will continually monitor and assess policy and private-sector trends and developments, identify strategic opportunities and initiatives for Clean Energy Canada, and set the overall direction for the organization’s clean economy program. This role will include: building trusted relationships and partnerships with key government, business, and industry leaders to find areas of common ground; leading unique research that is presented in a dynamic, accessible way; and contributing to the development of compelling communications. A strong project manager and strategic thinker, this individual can thrive working alone or as part of a team.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Continually monitors and assesses policy and private-sector trends and developments in support of Canada’s transition to a clean economy.
- Provides leadership / oversight and sets direction for the clean economy program by identifying strategic opportunities and developing corresponding initiatives.
Program, Project and Staff Management
- Manages staff dedicated to the clean economy program.
- Develops program / project goals, objectives, timelines and deliverables; leads execution, evaluation and reporting on these.
- Develops and signs off on external contracts; manages contractors providing support to the clean economy program.
Policy and Advocacy
- Leads policy analysis on clean economy solutions, with a current focus on industrial decarbonization and enabling policies.
- Focuses on finding the “acupuncture points” to inspire government leadership and develop strategies to advance relevant policies and other supportive actions.
- Leads / contributes to government meetings to advance policy recommendations; contributes to constructive government processes and events, including but not limited to public consultations, appearances before legislative committees, press conferences, etc.
- Writes policy briefs, powerpoint presentations, etc. as well as overseeing this work of the clean economy team.
- Passionately represents Clean Energy Canada’s work and position on clean-economy-related issues.
- Leads / contributes to research and writing for reports, reviewing all final communications products in the clean economy program.
- Leads / contributes to shaping key messages / developing media materials (press releases, op-eds, blogs, etc.)
Convening / Stakeholder Engagement / Partnerships
- Leads engagement on initiatives with governments, businesses and other civil society groups to find areas of common ground on clean economy-related policies or issues; identifies and executes strategic convening opportunities to support policy development.
- Develops Clean Energy Canada events that draw on partnerships and showcase a depth and breadth of stakeholder support for clean economy-related policies or issues.
- Enthusiastically presents Clean Energy Canada’s work and position on clean economy policies and issues at industry-led conferences and events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- University degree in relevant area such as public policy, environmental sciences, etc. required
- Minimum five years of work-related experience— media and government relations skills will be viewed as an asset
- The Clean Economy Program Manager reports to the Executive Director
- Position is based in Toronto, Ottawa, Victoria or Vancouver
- Some travel is required for government relations, stakeholder meetings and events, and may include up to three trips a year for staff meetings (in non Covid times)
