Norway set its first long-term offshore wind target with an ambition to unlock acreage for 30GW of capacity by 2040 in a move that was welcomed by the nation’s wind industry, even if it was lower than hoped for.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre claimed the target would allow Norway to fulfil its potential in a sector where it has “all the prerequisites for success” thanks to “favourable sea areas, workers with world-leading technology expertise and good cooperation between the state and business”.
